An Intern's Guide to Working at (add)ventures

As our time as interns comes to an end, we want to share a bit about our experiences and break down our roles to highlight what we’ve been up to over the past 10 weeks. For those interested in the internship program at (add)ventures, we’ve got the inside scoop on some of the projects and responsibilities interns in each of the company’s disciplines typically work on. We hope this blog can serve as a resource to decide which intern position to apply for and offer perspective on our biggest takeaways from the program!
 

Design

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with both internal and client campaigns across a variety of industries and platforms, including designing layouts and graphic elements, critiquing work with team members, and revising projects based on feedback.
  • Researching design inspiration and presenting findings.
  • Brainstorming with other designers on how to integrate findings into a project.

Major Takeaways from their (add)ventures internship:

“As a design intern at (add)ventures, I have been able to experience how a professional design team works. Seeing the many phases and procedures that each project goes through has been incredibly informative in developing my own design practices. Additionally, working alongside interns of other disciplines, (video, marketing, content) has been eye-opening and provided insight to the many facets that contribute to overall brand identity.” – Avery

Content

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to team campfire sessions where we collectively talk through and brainstorm ideas for upcoming client campaigns.
  • Drafting copy for various platforms for both client and internal projects.
  • Ideating campaign themes and overall messaging.
  • Investigating like-industry client competitors and collecting inspiration for the team.

Major Takeaways from the (add)ventures Internship:

“(add)ventures has taught me what it means to be a member of a team both on the professional and personal level. Despite the remote nature of much of our internship, the amount of collaboration and group-oriented work I've taken part in has allowed me to see just how valuable a strong team environment is. As a member of the content team, I have been able to develop and strengthen my writing and critical thinking skills, learning strategies for both that will surely stick with me throughout my career.” – Kendall
 

Marketing

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participating in team meetings for client and internal projects.
  • Aiding team members in initiating start-up projects such as strategy briefs and client decks.
  • Researching content and design information on client competitors.
  • Organizing and updating project documents, such as timelines, outlines, and calendar meetings for the team.

Major Takeaways from the (add)ventures Internship:

“Being an intern at (add)ventures has given me the opportunity to learn how to successfully communicate with co-workers and clients in a professional capacity, to work amongst a variety of people in different departments to reach common goals, how to manage my time between different responsibilities, and how to balance working in a fun environment while still reaching deadlines.” – Sarah
 

Video

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Working alongside video producers with research and organizational needs.
  • Engaging in video project meetings and inputting creative thoughts into discussions.
  • Taking part in the live-action pre-production process and serving as a production assistant on sets.
  • Taking initiative and immersing myself in client campaigns where I could add value.

Major Takeaways from the (add)ventures Internship:

“(add)ventures has given me the experience to collaborate among different departments, professionally communicate with like-minded video creatives, develop a financial understanding of the video field, and perhaps my favorite thing: learn how to understand walkie-talkie lingo while on set as a production assistant!” – Bree
 

Digital

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Documenting digital team workflow.
  • Cooperating with several teams within the digital discipline, including UX/UI, engineering, and QA, to learn about the different aspects of the digital realm.
  • Reviewing current and new technologies that could benefit the team.
  • Creating basic HTML/CSS emails and expanding email campaign capabilities.

Major Takeaways from the (add)ventures Internship:

“Learning how important it is and how strongly the digital team communicates was a big help for me. The way managers convey what they need and more importantly how to do it without micromanaging was great guidance for me. As I move through my career, I’ve realized that a lot of the skills I’ve learned about how to lead new hires and other team members all started with the foundational communication that was taught by example in the internship program.” – Steve, former intern and current (add)ventures team member
